Kakum National Park
Each year, the school embarks on exciting picnics and educational tour to interesting places in Ghana. One such interesting place we visited is the Kakum National Park. Located just 30km north of Cape Coast, Kakum National Park is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. This 357km² national park consists of undisturbed coastal forest and is home to Africa’s only rainforest canopy walkway. This canopy walkway is one of only a dozen or so such walkways in the world.
Walking tours through the park offer the opportunity to spot much of Ghana’s indigenous plant life, as well as many types of birds and butterflies. However, due to the number of visitors at the main entrance and the canopy walkway, game sightings are rare and can only occur when well into the park. This is certainly possible, and the park will allow early and overnight guests for such visits, but realize that a casual visit to Kakum National Park will result in a wildlife experience consisting only of birds, butterflies, insects and lizards
Akosombo Dam

Another historic places we have visited is the Akosombo Dam. It is a hydroelectric dam in the Adjena gorge of the Volta River. It is in the southeastern part of Ghana. The construction of the dam flooded part of the Volta River Basin, and led to a subsequent creation of what has become the world’s largest man-made lake (Lake Volta). Covering an area of 8,502 square kilometres (3,283 sq mi), which is about 3.6% of Ghana’s land area, some 80,000 people were affected by the lake as a result of the construction of the dam. A number of the affected communities were resettled and moved onto different lands. In all, 52 towns were resettled by the Volta River Authority (VRA). One of the resettled towns is Adjena.
A VISIT TO BOTI FALLS
Eastern Region of Ghana
Boti Falls is located just 17km North-east of Koforidua, the eastern regional capital. It is just over 90 minutes from Accra depending on your means of transportation.
River Pawnpawn which forms the falls takes it source from Ahenkwa-Amalakpo before falling over an igneous rock outcrop at the Boti Langmase and that is how the falls get its name. The fall was hidden in the forest until it was discovered by a white catholic priest. It is recounted by locals that the priest used the base of the falls as an entertainment ground for his friends and himself
